What this guide is for

Capella offers multiple nursing pathways, including undergraduate and graduate options, and some students use a flexible pacing format. Regardless of pacing, clinical or practicum courses still require an eligible preceptor and an eligible site under Capella’s current rules.

A 12-step sequence Capella students can follow

1. Review your current program requirements in Capella’s own materials.
2. Identify required clinical or practicum hours for the specific course.
3. Identify specialty and population requirements.
4. Review preceptor qualifications on the current Capella list.
5. Identify potential clinical sites.
6. Contact potential preceptors or site education offices.
7. Gather required documentation (CV, licenses, agreements).
8. Submit Capella’s required application or approval materials.
9. Complete onboarding required by Capella and the site.
10. Monitor approval status in Capella’s current system.
11. Maintain communication during the practicum.
12. Complete required logs and evaluations.
