Finding a nurse practitioner preceptor

NP preceptor searches fail most often when specialty, population, or setting does not match the course. Confirm those rules first, then look for clinicians whose practice actually produces the required experiences.

Match the rotation, not just the title

An FNP course usually needs family or primary care exposure. A PMHNP course needs psychiatric care. An acute-care NP course typically needs hospital or similarly intensive settings. A clinician’s job title is not enough if the patient mix is wrong.

Ask how much of a typical week is direct care in your required population, and whether the site already hosts students.
