How to prepare for your nursing practicum

Preparation is mostly operational: documents, schedule, communication, and a plan for logs. Clinical skill grows during the rotation; paperwork delays happen before day one.

Before the first day

  • Complete university and site onboarding items that are still open.
  • Confirm dress code, EHR access, parking, and arrival time.
  • Send a short introduction and your learning goals to the preceptor.
  • Set up whatever hour-log system your program requires.

Need help finding a preceptor?

Tell PreceptorFinder what your program requires. A team member reviews your request and works to identify preceptor options based on specialty, location, hours, and university rules.
